Harvey Martin is the only place he might fit in, but its very very close.

I have Haley on the all-time 49ers team no doubt, he was a monster for them.
(well for Dallas too but theres stiffer competition on the DAL D than the SF D.)

I thought about putting Haley on there, but dang its a flip of the coin with a few of those players. Hollywood Henderson could have been on there too.

and you're right Gotch, they are all HOFers, but I dont put KC Jones or Tom Heinsohn in the same category of Shaq and Elgin Baylor.

Lets go by position:

C-Bill Russell v. Wilt Chamberlain (the greatest basketball debate of all time, and i cant pretend to have a definitive answer.)
I have always favored Russell, he was dominant on both sides and won more titles but he had a better team. Ill still take Russell, the best C of all time and a top 5 player ever

PF-Kareem v. McHale
Kareem, no doubt.

SF-Bird v. Worthy
Bird, no doubt

SG-Kobe v. Havlicek
Kobe

PG-Cousy v. Magic
Magic

and I would take:
Shaq, Elgin Baylor, George Mikan, Jerry West and Wilks/Goodrich over
Parrish, Archibald, Walton, KC Jones and DJ.

My all-time Vol team to pick is hard to do. WR U made it really tough leaving off players like Tim McGee, Alvin Harper, Stanley Morgan, Joey Kent, Peerless Price and Anthony Miller. But here goes:

Both of you goons left Doug Atkins off the UT team. A guy who's in the college and pro football hall of fame and considered one of the 20 best NFL players ever. A guy who Mike Ditka said he was TERRIFIED of.

He'd be on there way before DeLong or Ellis.

Bill Simmons' "Book of Basketball" has an entire chapter about the Chamberlain-Russell debate. He's obviously a Celtics homer, but he points are valid. Statistically, Wilt dwarfs Russell. But when it came to winning, Russell dominated Wilt. Based on desire to win, I'm not so sure I don't put Shaq in over Wilt to start. Of course, Wilt pouts then and does nothing.
